Lac du Der-Chantecoq — Marne / Haute-Marne

About this place

The largest artificial lake in France at 4,800 hectares, the Lac du Der is an inland sea in the heart of the Champagne crayeuse. Its banks planted with alders and willows form kilometres of grassy shores where dogs swim freely in shallow water. An exceptional migration site for common cranes (up to 80,000 in November), it is a unique experience to watch your dog run along an empty shore against a backdrop of great flocks of migrating birds.
