The largest natural lake in France by permanent surface area at 6,000 hectares, the Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans stretches 19 km through the Landes de Gascogne. Its white sandy beaches lined with maritime pine forests form a typical Landes landscape. Dogs swim in fresh, shallow waters on natural beaches that are often deserted, far from supervised zones.
