A forest on the outskirts of Caen · le Cinglais (1,500 ha) is a beech-oak woodland on the limestone plateaux between Caen and Falaise. Very popular with residents of Caen for its easily accessible woodland trails · it makes an ideal Sunday walk destination with a dog. The flat and well-maintained forest avenues suit dogs of all sizes.

Possible fine of up to 750 € for straying. Hunting periods in autumn and winter: check before heading out.

Specific rules

National forest rule: lead mandatory outside forest paths from 15 April to 30 June (protection of wildlife during the breeding season · order of 16 March 1955). For the rest of the year the dog must remain under its owner's supervision and within 100 m. Exemptions for sheepdogs · avalanche dogs and guide dogs.
